A consummate example of late seventies “high tech” or “matte black” design that folded together rich stylistic flourishes with utilitarian or industrial materials, the “Egina 38” pendant lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide features a stepped glass diffuser and retractile cord. Known to his peers as the “philosopher” of lighting design, Mangiarotti often named his creations after islands — a poetic nod towards their unique placement in interior space, and a way of emphasizing the pure aestheticism that makes up one half of the high tech duality. Balancing this dynamic are the sandblasted glass shade, the visible metal clips, and the plastic cone that mounts the unit to the ceiling — all overt references to industrial processes.

Condition: Excellent original condition.

Dimensions: The pendant fixture has a diameter of 15” and is 9” tall. From the cord to the top of the mount is a 19” length.
