Armchair by Ejnar Larsen and A. Bender Madsen

$2,400.00

Teak and leather armchair by Ejnar Larsen and A. (Aksel) Bender Madsen for Willy Beck, Denmark, c.1950s. The chair features a fully upholstered seat and backrest in a supple black leather. The sculpted armrests and legs are made from teak. The legs are accented by diagonal teak stretchers that taper at both ends. This armchair by Larsen and Madsen is similar to their classic “Metropolitan Chair”, but chair model does not have stretchers on the legs.

Larsen and Madsen met while students at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the 1940s. Madsen worked for notable Danish designers Kaare Klint and Arne Jacobsen in the early 1940s, and in 1947, Madsen teamed up with Larsen to start producing designs together. Starting in the 1950s and ongoing for over 25 years, they worked closely with cabinet maker Willy Beck on many different furniture designs. Over their 30 year career together they designed over 300 pieces, many of which were for Beck.
