San Miguelito chair by Michael van Beuren for Domus, c.1940s. The San Miguelito or Miguel chair was named after van Beuren’s Spanish moniker, “Don Miguel.” The chair is van Beuren’s interpretation of the traditional butaca, or butaque chair, which was popular along coastal areas in Mexico since colonial times. The chair features a solid pine frame with the original patinated woven leather straps, attached to the frame with patinated brass pins.
