John Kapel Studio Secretary Console
Commonly known for his designs he licensed to Glenn of California, John Kapel, a contemporary of Sam Maloof, maintained a studio practice after his stint with George Nelson. His studio pieces from his workshop in Northern California are all custom pieces and one of a kind. They are uncommon to come across and highly coveted for their craftsmanship and stunning design, this came from his personal collection. This secretary console consists of two pieces, a desk and the secretary cabinet that sits atop it. Made from walnut the console has two doors with inset handles. The left door is a downward opening door with two brass hinges and gives way to a three drawer shelf with paper and mail sorting slots above it. The right door opens out to the right and features five brass pegs on the doors interior and has a single fixed shelf. The desk has two shallow drawers. Signed “J. Kapel ‘80.” We have a credenza available that is a set with this secretary console.
