Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair in Black Leather
By Fritz Hansen
Arne Jacobsen’s “Swan Chair” was produced by Fritz Hansen, originally designed alongside another of his most significant works, the Egg Chair, for a the Royal Hotel Copenhagen in 1958. The chair features a shell of revolutionary-at-the-time technology: cold-cured molded foam over a skeleton of fiberglass, allowing for the perfectly curved planes that make up its clamshell shape. The design also demands hand-stretched and stitched leather upholstery; this example retains the original black leather. The four-star aluminum base has black plastic feet and connects to the chair via a polished steel post. The underside of the chair is marked with the Fritz Hansen label that gives the manufacture date as 1985.
Condition: Excellent original condition; professionally cleaned and polished with no structural flaws. Very minor scuffing to the leather at arm seams from normal wear and use.
Dimensions: 31” width x 26” depth x 31” height; seat height is 15” and arm height is 22”.
