Axel Larsson Lounge Chair
A pioneer of Swedish Modern, a uniquely functionalist discipline of Scandinavian design, Axel Larsson designed modest living pieces with an eye for blonde or bentwood, and woven surfaces. This high-backed lounge chair, an obvious precursor to the more famous Pernilla Chair by Bruno Mathsson (the two designers were contemporaries and worked together at Bodafors/Svenska Mobelfabrikerna in the 1930s and 40s), has a frame of stained beech wood and a seat of woven leather webbing. A gracefully arched overall structure is distinguished by the expressive squiggle of the bentwood armrests. Stamped “Made in Sweden” on the underside of the front chair rail.
25.7” width x 37.25” depth x 39.5” height; seat height is 13.5" arm height is 23."
Excellent vintage condition; the frame has been cleaned and polished. Several of the leather straps were replaced according to original specifications.
