These feature heavy chrome plated steel bases, with molded seats upholstered in its original fabric. It got its name due to the fact that when stacked, it fits 40 chairs in just 4 feet of space hence the name 40/4 chair.
David Rowland attended the University of Southern California to study industrial design and, in 1951, received his Master’s Degree in Industrial Design at Cranbrook Academy of Art.
