High Back Armchair by Axel Larsson for Bodafors/Svenska Möbelfabrikerna
A pioneer of Swedish Modern, a uniquely functionalist discipline of Scandinavian design, Axel Larsson designed modest living pieces with an eye for blonde or bent wood, and woven surfaces. This high-backed lounge chair, an obvious precursor to the more famous Pernilla Chair by Bruno Mathsson (the two designers were contemporaries and worked together at Bodafors/Svenska Mobelfabrikerna in the 1930s and 40s), has a frame of stained beech wood and a seat of woven leather webbing. A gracefully arched overall structure is distinguished by the expressive squiggle of the bent wood armrests. Stamped “Made in Sweden” on underside of front chair rail.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition; frame has been cleaned and polished. Several of the leather straps were replaced according to original specifications.
Dimensions: 25.7” width x 37.25” depth x 39.5” height; seat height is 13.5” and arm height is 23”
