Jan was born in Holland in 1908 and moved to California as a young adult. He earned his fortune early on creating patents for various rivets and grommets so he could pursue his artistic passions. Jan looked for beauty in everything - allowing him to explore a variety of mediums and artistic expression. De Swart's work can be found throughout Southern California which was his home at the time of his death in 1987.
