ON HOLD ** Pair of Blue Leather Lounge Chairs by Ejner Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen
Rare pair of teak and leather chairs by Ejner Larsen and Aksel Bender Madsen, for Ludvig Pontoppidan, c.1940s. These chairs feature the original blue leather. The sculpted armrests and legs are made from teak and leather wrapped. The legs are accented by a horizontal teak stretcher.
Larsen and Madsen met while students at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the 1940s. Madsen worked for notable Danish designers Kaare Klint and Arne Jacobsen in the early 1940s, and in 1947, Madsen teamed up with Larsen to start producing designs together. Starting in the 1950s and ongoing for over 25 years, they worked closely with cabinet maker Willy Beck on many different furniture designs. Over their 30 year career together they designed over 300 pieces, many of which were for Beck.
