Pierre Cardin worked for several couture houses including Christian Dior and was best known for creating groundbreaking designs in 1950s fashion. He drew public attention after leaving the fashion house by introducing novel ideas and styles - de-emphasizing a woman’s curves. He expanded his design work into furniture where symmetrical forms, lacquer and figured veneer finishes, and metal accents like brass and aluminium were signature details.
