Set of Four George Nakashima Black Walnut Captain Chairs
An accomplished set of four captain chairs from American midcentury craftsman George Nakashima. The black walnut chair has a curved, peaked backrest atop carved spindles, inspired by the Windsor chair and Shaker pieces. The seat is hand-sculpted for comfort and sits on four tapered dowel legs, joined to the chair at a distinctively steep angle. The backrest has distinctive tenon joints. An identical vein of sapwood runs through the seat of all four chairs, indicating they were created from the same slab of wood. The set, produced in 1958, has been verified by the Nakashima Foundation and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Please inquire for further details.
