Set of Four Dining Chairs by Harry Østergaard for Randers Møbelfabrik
Designed circa 1960 by Harry Østergaard, this set of dining chairs includes two arm chairs and two side chairs. Manufactured in Denmark by Randers Møbelfabrik, the chairs were imported, like many other Randers designs, by the Long Beach-based Moreddi for sale in their partner showroom, Frank Brothers, a pioneering champion of Scandinavian design in the West Coast modernist enclave. The chair’s appeal lies mainly in an expressive design that perches a gently scooped seat and wingback-inspired sculpted headrest on a strong teak framework. The two captain chairs have parabolic armrests that angle sharply upward, matching the dramatic swoop of the backrest’s outer edges. Two of the chairs have the “MM” Moreddi brand and one of the armchairs retains a manufacturer’s stamp reading, “Made in Denmark A/S Randers Møbelfabrik.”
Condition: Excellent restored condition; professionally refinished and reupholstered in an oatmeal-colored textile.
Dimensions: {armchair} 24” width x 20.5” depth x 31.5” height; {side chair} 20” width x 18.5” depth x 30.5” height; seat height 17.5”
