Sculptural bronze stool or side table by American modernist architect and artist, Gene Summers features one of his most celebrated and recognizable silhouettes. The elegant, pinched hourglass waist table, created during the late 1980s, while in France. The functional art object bridges the gap between modernism, brutalist texture, and organic design. Crafted using the ancient lost-wax casting method, the stool possesses a unique, heavily hand-wrought skin. The piece has a rich verdigris and charcoal patina. Borrowing heavily from the structural silhouettes of traditional African tribal seating, Summers reinterprets timeless heritage through a heavy, industrial medium.
