José Mendoza ran a foundry called Pepe Mendoza in the 1950s and 60s in Mexico City, manufacturing modernist home accessories using a modified cloissonné technique more suited to the tastes of the day.
This piece features a solid cast brass and Mendoza’s signature vibrant malachite and turquoise-colored mosaic inlay. The central well is detailed with raised brass Mayan hieroglyph motif, serving as both a stunning visual focal point and ashtray.
4.25" width x 4.75" depth x .75" height
Good vintage condition; brass showcases patina and slight wear consistent with age and use. Some missing turquoise inlay . Please request more images if needed.
